Betsy’s Toe

I can’t believe this has happened!  My partner Betsy was playing with Giles the cat with a piece of yarn.  When she drew the yarn across her foot, Giles went to grab it with his mouth and got her toe instead!  (His eyesight is really going downhill, if you couldn’t tell.)

We didn’t think a whole lot about it at first – just washed out the bite with peroxide and put some antibiotic ointment on it.  But, after about 3 days, it was so infected, she couldn’t get a shoe on, and she couldn’t go to work.  I took her to the mini-ER where they put her on antibiotics, but her toe continued to get worse, so last Saturday, I took her to the regular ER.

Her toe was so infected, she had to be admitted and had to have surgery!  They actually dug a bit of yarn out of the bone in her toe (TMI?).  Anyways, she was in the hospital for a week, which explains why I haven’t posted anything in so long, but she is home now.

She’s still on antibiotics, and still feeling pretty miserable, but it’s great to have her back home.  Danny really missed her, even though I took him to see Betsy nearly every day while she was in the hospital.  His whole class at school made get well cards for her – too cute!

I’ll try to get back to posting several times this week, but it’s tough to do when she can’t help with Danny and the house.  I feel like I spend my life driving back and forth to hockey practice, making meals, and cleaning the house.  Betsy is not allowed to put any weight on her foot yet, so she’s about worthless as far as doing all of the housework she normally does.

She must be feeling better, though.  She’s complaining about everything Danny & I do, so I guess that’s a good sign.

Until next time,

Bye-bye and buy books!
